The USSSA baseball association offers a wonderful opportunity for all baseball players to participate in the sport no matter what their skill level. The Unites States Specialty Sports Association wants everyone who wants to play baseball have a chance to enjoy the game. It is a national association and serves primarily youth.
Starting a USSSA baseball team is simple. All you have to do is register with the team and pay the registration fee. The USSSA baseball tournaments are open to all qualifying teams and are used for qualifying for the State Championships and World Series play games.
USSSA youth baseball has 4 classifications. They are: 1) Major Division, 2) AAA Division, 3) AA Division, and 4) A Division. The division levels recognize different skill levels ranging from the top and competitive teams to the recreational league teams. The point is that any youth can play baseball no matter whether they plan on competing in a tournament or just want to play for fun.
Like Major League baseball, some USSSA baseball players hope to compete with other teams and show they are the best. The Major and the AAA Divisions result in play in the USSSA World Series. This opportunity to compete in official competition provides a wonderful chance to play baseball when there were no other options.
But USSSA baseball is not a "last chance" league. It is a nationally recognized association that simply wants to give all children a chance to play.
School sports often exclude kids who do not play well enough due to budgets and lack of time. The days of sandlot games are almost gone and the Association recognizes the disappointment many would-be young athletes feel when denied a chance to play.
The rules are defined in the national by-laws and rules, and you can find any USSSA baseball rule online. The by-laws explain how to join the association, the rules of play and how divisions are established. For example, the by-laws explain the USSSA tournaments + 14 year old age youth eligibility.
USSSA baseball provides a great chance for kids to play the American tradition game of baseball. It was formed simply to promote a love of the game, but also teaches sportsmanship and fair play. The lessons that are learned last far beyond the game end though.
If you had given up hope of finding a team for your young baseball player, contact the USSSA baseball association. You will be pleasantly surprised to find how easy it is to join.
