Baseball is a game where it is hard to pinpoint the exact beginnings, but Alexander Cartwright is recognized as the man who invented the game of baseball. Actually what it should say is that he invented the game that evolved into modern baseball. A baseball game of sorts was mentioned in 1792 in Massachusetts.

But the creation of organized baseball with rules in 1845 is considered the year when baseball was invented. The person who invented the game of baseball is Alexander Cartwright. You are at risk of getting different answers when you ask who invented baseball because the game was played before 1845, but it was played without a regulated field or a set of common rules.

It is safe to call Cartwright the inventor of baseball because he developed the first rules for the game. He was a member of the New York Knickerbocker Base Ball Club and the club was determined to add some consistency to the game.
